Glimmer Vale – Omnibus Edition

I’ve wanted to put out a boxed set of the Glimmer Vale Chronicles for a while, but I didn’t have the free cash available to get good artwork done.

That hurdle is passed, and James Beveridge (the same guy who did the art for the other Glimmer Vale stories) hooked me up nicely.  So yesterday Glimmer Vale Chronicles Books 1-5 went out into the world.  Now, you can get all of the Glimmer Vale stories currently in existence in one convenient ebook, for one low(er) price.

A compilation of Glimmer Vale Chronicles Books 1-5.

Raedrick Baletier and Julian Hinderbrook are two fighting men on the run from their past. Taking a lightly travelled route home to avoid run-ins with the authorities, they come into the remote mountain valley called Glimmer Vale and find to their chagrin that its primary town, Lydelton, has become besieged by brigands. The brigands have taken up station in the mountain passes, cutting off their means of advance, and of escape. And so Raedrick and Julian accept the town’s offer of employment. Their mission: drive the brigands off and restore peace to the Vale.

They never thought that decision would end up changing their lives forever.

Cover Reveal: The Falconer’s Stairs

Howdy folks.

Today I present the cover to my upcoming release: The Falconer’s Stairs (Glimmer Vale Chronicles #5).  Art done by the estimable Jim Beveridge, who I contracted through Lucky Bat Books.

Jared Tolburt twice almost cost Raedrick Baletier and Julian Hinderbrook their lives: once when he turned on them while they were fleeing the Army, and again when he unwittingly led a group of bandits into Glimmer Vale.  While fighting off the bandits, Raedrick and Julian found a cryptic, magically protected letter that hinted at the location of a great treasure.  Now, with help from Melanie Klemins, Lydelton’s resident mage, Tolburt intends to claim that treasure for his own.

The treasure is hidden far away from Glimmer Vale, and guarded by both physical and magical obstacles.  With Raedrick unable to travel due to his wife’s pregnancy and Melanie eager to assist Tolburt in his quest, Julian has to do the last thing he ever wanted: travel with and help the man he trusts least in the world.

Far from their home and beset with dangers of all kinds, Julian, Melanie, and Tolburt will have to depend on each other even to survive, let alone succeed in their quest for The Falconer’s Stairs.

But Tolburt already sold Julian out once when the going got tough.  What’s to say he would not do it again?

The Falconer’s Stairs is scheduled for release on 15 April.  Pre-orders will start in the next couple of days.

Cool Developments

Hello, folks.

It’s been a while since I had anything to say on here.  Or rather, it’s been a while since I bothered to say anything on here.  Suffice it to say the last couple months have been pretty busy.  We ran through a fairly hefty financial debacle, got really busy with the kids and school, had several visitors from out of town, took a family trip to Disneyland, wrestled with the Navy detailers to figure out what my next (and last) Navy job is going to be, and…

Long story short, I haven’t gotten much writing done, though I did get stories submitted to Writers of the Future, so that’s good.

As the post title implies, I’ve got some cool developments to announce.  So let’s get to it.

First.  My orders are finalized.  My Last. Navy. Job. EVER! will be on a Carrier Strike Group staff here in San Diego.  Which is cool because we don’t have to move until I retire.  And because I get to go back to sea, on a Carrier.  On the down side, I’ll be deploying again, and only a few months before my retirement date.  So that will make transition…interesting.  But that’s the Navy for you.

Second.  Turns out the nice people at Kobo are having a sale on books that are published through their Kobo Writing Life portal – 50% off the list price.  Since all my stuff is published through that portal and I’m a big Kobo fan, I figure you guys might want to know about that.  The sale has a different duration depending on what country you’re in, as follows:

Canada
October 28th – October 31st
Promo Code: CA50SALE

United States/Australia/New Zealand
October 27th – October 30th
Promo Code: GET50SALE

United Kingdom
October 30th – November 2nd
Promo Code: UK50SALE

So if you want some cool books for a good price, run on over there and use those promo codes, and Kobo will hook you up.  🙂

Third.  I’m doing a giveaway of Glimmer Vale, book one of the Glimmer Vale Chronicles.  If you want a free copy of a fun book, click here, input your email address, and your wish will be granted.  🙂

Fourth.  You probably noticed I’ve given the website a bit of a facelift.  I had been using the Ocean Breeze WordPress theme for a while, but decided to try The Responsive after interacting with a few other writers who dig it.  I have to say, I like it so far.  What do you guys think?  Better, same as, worse?

Finally, and speaking of the Glimmer Vale Chronicles, the fourth book in the series, Robbed Blind, is, at long last, about ready to go.  The cover art is basically finalized, so I figured I’d share it with you.  There are a couple very small tweaks still to make on the cover, but I expect it will be wrapped up this week.  Here it is as it currently stands:

Pretty sweet, right?  Once again, James Beveridge consented to provide the artwork, and he did a great job as usual.

Anyway, once the cover’s finished, I’m going to do something that I’ve not done before: pre-orders.  Barring some unexpected catastrophe, expect to see the book up on all the sites that allow pre-orders next week, for an official release at the end of November.  It’ll go for $4.99 for the ebook and $13.95 for the trade paperback.

That’s all I have for you for right now.  Don’t forget to hit up Kobo, and please do either hit the link above or click on the Newsletter link in the menu atop the page, to sign up to get updates and free stuff.  It’s good for you.  It’s good for me.  It’s good for the children.

Remember the children.

🙂

Out-Dweller Cover Reveal

I’ve been silent for a while, despite getting connectivity back in our new house.  What can I say?  Moving is funny that way.  Distracting.  Busy.  Fun.   🙂  As a consequence of the move, I didn’t make it in NaNoWriMo this year.  Big shock, right?  I topped out at a little under 36,000 words.  Not too bad for a given month, more than my average for the year.  But still not the goal.

Am I mad about that?  Nope.  Getting the family situated takes priority, and I got Glimmer Vale 3 2/3s done.  So it’s all good.  🙂

That said, I still haven’t gotten my schedule squared away at the new house.  My commute is a hell of a lot longer than it was, and I don’t have a writing desk (I had stolen my daughter’s desk in the old place…long story, don’t ask).  Consequently, I’ve not written much so far in December, just a couple thousand words.  But that’s ok.

But that’s not the purpose of this post.

You may recall I finished Out-Dweller, Glimmer Vale Chronicles #2, at the end of October, and I just rolled into #3 for NaNoWriMo.  While the book was off with my first readers, I contracted with James Beveridge, via Lucky Bat Books, to do a cover.  You may (or may not) recall that he did the cover for Glimmer Vale, and did a great job on it.  Well, he outdid himself with this one.  Observe:

Pretty awesome, huh?  I love it.  🙂

So Out-Dweller is just about ready to go.  I’ve received comments from most of my first-readers and am making final edits.  The plan is to have it ready for release by the end of the month.  Of course, shenanigans may prevent that, but I think I’m mostly past those for the time being.  So that’s the plan.  In case you’re curious, here is the back cover copy/blurb for the book:

A series of brutal murders has shocked the normally quiet town of Lydelton.  With no idea of the culprit’s identity, or even how the murders were committed, the townsfolk have become suspicious of each other, teetering on the edge of panic.  As the town Constables, Raedrick and Julian must put a stop to the murders and bring the killer to justice.   Somehow.

Before they can do that, the arrival of a member of the Magestirium poses another dilemma.  Because their friend Melanie is a mage, in violation of the laws forbidding women from practicing the magical arts, and the Magestirium’s wrath against those who break their laws is legendary.

But protecting their friend’s secret while saving the town from a horrifying killer may not be possible, since defeating this killer will require every resource Lydelton can muster.

So stay tuned for Out-Dweller.  It’s a romping fun read, and you don’t have to have read Glimmer Vale to enjoy it.  But if perchance you haven’t read Glimmer Vale yet and want to, it’s available pretty much everywhere.  By all means give it a look-see.  You’ll be glad you did.

Glimmer Vale Cover Art

Hi everyone.

So I’ve been anxiously awaiting the cover art for Glimmer Vale, as I think I’ve mentioned before.  I contracted with Lucky Bat Books for the art, and Cindie, who runs the show over there, hooked me up with Jim Beveridge.  Dude is AWESOME!  It took him a little while to complete the job, but the results are well worth the wait.  Observe…

The ebook cover:

And the wraparound cover for the trade paperback:

Go ahead.  Tell me that isn’t FREAKING AWESOME!

I dare you.

That’s right.  You can’t.  Because that artwork rocks!

That said, I do have a couple TINY nits to pick.  I expect those will be cleared up in the next couple days though, and Glimmer Vale will be up electronically by week’s end, with the trade paperback edition following quickly on its heels.  Stay tuned.
